San Pellegrino Limone & te Review
San Pellegrino Limone & te is a unique sparkling water product from San Pellegrino. San Pellegrino is actually not an independent company, but part of the giant Swiss company Nestlé. Nestlé also owns the sparkling water brand Perrier.
San Pellegrino Limone & te Review
San Pellegrino Limone & te, like all of San Pellegrino’s products, is a lightly carbonated sparkling beverage. Like many of San Pellegrino’s flavored beverages, it is sweetened.
Appearance
San Pellegrino Limone & te has a slightly cloudy burnt umber color. It is not as dark in appearance as most black tea beverages. It appears closer in color to a green tea beverage. You can see small bubbles of carbon dioxide slowly rising to the surface.
Taste
There is no hiding the sweetness of San Pellegrino Limone & te. The first taste is both sweet and tart. The flavor is derived from a blend of 3% lemon juice, 1% orange juice, black tea, and cane sugar. You can really taste the tart acidic lemon juice coupled with the black tea. The orange juice flavor is lost in the lemon flavor, but it helps build the complexity of the acidic flavor. As the flavor develops on the tongue the tart lemon and sweetness linger, and the black tea taste appears. At the end of the taste, the tartness remains after the other flavors have dissipated. The black tea flavor is not a very strong or bold flavor, but it works in this sparkling beverage.
San Pellegrino Limone & te is sweet, there is no getting around that. Putting the sweetness in perspective, there are 12 grams of sugar in a can. A similar amount of Coca Cola has 28 grams of sugar and San Pellegrino Limonata has 21 grams of sugar. I am not a giant fan of sweetened beverages and would prefer it if it was a touch less sweet, but it is a great middle-ground between an unsweetened drink and a full-sugar soda.
Sparkling
San Pellegrino Limone & te has the typical small delicate bubbles that have made San Pellegrino famous. Did you know that San Pellegrino is named after the town, San Pellegrino Terme, where they originally started sourcing the water?
Nutrition
San Pellegrino Limone & te comes in a small 250ml, 8.45 ounce can. There are 50 calories and 12 grams of sugar per can. San Pellegrino Limone & te is one of the few organic products that San Pellegrino makes. They do very little advertising that it is an organic product. It is also OU Kosher certified.
